St. Pete Intersection Crash Causes Fatal Injuries

A devastating intersection car accident in St. Pete recently claimed the life of one driver and left another with devastating injuries. A September 11, 2024 WTSB News report states that it happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of 51st Street and 1st Avenue South.

A silver Infinity sedan and a white Ford Ranger were involved. Law enforcement is currently investigating and is not yet revealing how the crash happened or who was to blame. However, they did say that the motorists collided with each other and were pushed off the road, and photos from the scene show extensive damage to the front of both vehicles.

One of the drivers was taken to a local hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. The other was ejected from his vehicle and, sadly, was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic was closed in both northbound and southbound lanes for over five hours into the aftermath.

The Florida Department of Transportation warns that intersections, by design, are common points of conflict. Reckless driving behavior that can increase Pinellas County intersection car accident risks include:

  • Speeding;
  • Distracted driving;
  • Driving under the influence;
  • Running red or yellow lights;
  • Jumping out ahead of a green light and into the intersection.
